Join us at MCMC for inclusive and fun group classes, a great way to join in community around music.

 

Session 1: Fridays, 9/19 - 10/17
Session 2: Fridays, 1/9 - 1/30
Session 3: Fridays, 3/6 - 3/27 [no class 3/20]
Class Time: 4 - 5:30 pm

Join us for MCMC’s joyous intergenerational chamber music string program led by violinist Emily Sunderman. Community members of all ages are placed into ensembles of similar playing levels where they work on exciting pieces together with coaches. Each session concludes with a festive performance for friends and family.

Session 1: Wednesdays, 9/24 - 12/17 [no class 11/26]
Session 2: Wednesdays, 1/7 - 3/18 [no class 2/25]
Session 3: Wednesdays, 3/25 - 5/20 [no class 4/22]
Class Time: 7:30 - 8:45 pm

Learn to play the ukulele / further your skills and strum along with friends! Guided by guitar and ukulele player Rodrigo Placencia, each session begins with basic instruction followed by a strum and singalong to everything from pop classics and jazz standards to modern pop hits and more. All levels are welcome, and ukuleles are available to rent. Virtual participation is an option!

Class Time: 8 - 9 pm

Led by trombonist Bear Irwin, Standard Jazz and Improvisation class is open to anyone interested in learning and developing improvisation skills in the context of the great Jazz Standards of the American SongBook. All ages are welcome to join in this course. Competence in playing the full standard range of your instrument and reading notation is required.

Join violinist and fiddler David Gusakov for a one-of-a-kind Swing / Jazz Violin Workshop this Fall. This four-class series explores various elements of jazz, including swing rhythm, syncopation, anticipation, upslides, pull-offs and more. Music presented includes classics from several of the greats - Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, and others. Open to participants ages 12+, two years of playing experience and/or completed Suzuki Book Two.

Beginner Musicianship: Tuesdays, 9/30 - 11/4
Theory 101: Tuesdays, 2/10 - 3/24 [no class 2/24]
Theory 201: Tuesdays, 4/7 - 5/19 [no class 4/21]
Class Time: 9 - 9:45 am

This unique trio of classes, led by pianist Sarah Trouslard, will guide participants through the basics of musicianship and music theory in an engaging and supportive way. If you have always been curious to learn more about music fundamentals, these classes are for you. Sign up for one or join for all three courses in the series!

The MCMC Ramblers, an inclusive and fun acoustic jam band led by banjo player Christopher Prickitt, will begin its second season of monthly meetups. Most songs and tunes are prepared in advance and distributed to participants. Suggestions from participants are highly encouraged. The group warmly welcomes instrumentalists of all ages and levels. Join for one session or for all!

Session 1: Thursdays, 9/11 - 10/16 + concert on 10/19 World Singing Day in Bristol
Session 2: Thursdays, 10/30 - 12/18 [no class 11/6, 11/27]
Class Time: 5:15-6:45 pm

MCMC’s Youth Chorus, led by singer Ali Gibson, welcomes students ages 9-13 (grades 4-8) who love to sing and want to learn to make music using their voice in the company of friends. No experience is necessary, just a love for music and a willingness to learn and explore new things. Each session ends with a casual performance for family and friends.

Calling all music producers and aspiring artists! Whether you're looking to record and produce your own songs, create beats for digital platforms like Spotify or Bandcamp, or just beginning your music-making journey, we have something for you. Join McLean Macionis — artist, producer, and Middlebury College faculty member — for a series of hands-on workshops that will introduce you to the exciting world of modern music production.

Tuition will be refunded in full up until two weeks prior to the class start date, with a $50 cancellation fee. There will be no refunds for cancellations once the class starts.
