An immersive, ensemble-based jazz experience for young musicians

MCMC’s long-running Jazz Camp offers an immersive and collaborative week for young musicians ages 12–18 who are excited to deepen their jazz ensemble skills and explore improvisation.

Throughout the week, students work in small jazz ensembles alongside experienced jazz faculty, exploring standard jazz repertoire in a supportive and challenging setting. Campers build essential ensemble skills including rhythm, blend, balance, intonation, and listening, while also spending dedicated time developing improvisational skills and musical confidence.

With focused ensemble coaching and opportunities for creative risk-taking, students are encouraged to grow as musicians and collaborators. The week culminates in a lively public performance at the Town Hall Theater Maloney Plaza, giving campers the experience of sharing their work in a professional performance setting.

Jazz Camp is a great fit for students who enjoy ensemble playing, are curious about improvisation, and are ready to engage deeply with jazz in a welcoming, high-quality program.

Prerequisites: A basic understanding of scales and reading music.

Audition Requirements: If you are a returning camper, you do not need to re-audition for camp. First-time campers are asked to audition so we can place students in appropriate ensembles. Audition details here.
