Community String Ensembles

Dates: Fridays 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, and 10/9 with a recital on 10/16 at Project Independence/Elderly Services.
Time: 4-5:30 pm

Tuition: Free, donations encouraged to support MCMC’s scholarship fund

MCMC’s Community String Ensembles is a tuition free program that facilitates intergenerational chamber music playing for string players of all ages and levels. Community members are placed in small ensembles of similar playing ability to work together to explore chamber music with peers and coaches. Suzuki Twinklers and Suzuki Book 1 students form a Suzuki Group class ensemble while seasoned players explore chamber works composed in the 14th century to the present day!

This program is led by violinist and MCMC faculty member Emily Sunderman. Assisting coaches involved in the program are advanced High School and College students, many of whom have participated in the program since they were beginning students.

The group breaks for snacks and plays with and for each other for the last half hour of class. MCMC partners with local venues such for festive final performances for friends and families.

Community String Ensembles is funded by a grant made possible by the Hernandez Bayliss Family Fund.
