Stefanie Taylor

Viola, Violin

 

Violist Stefanie Taylor has participated in numerous festivals and concert series in the United States and Europe. A graduate of Indiana University, Stefanie studied violin with Miriam Fried and James Buswell, and chamber music with Leonard Hokanson. She received her master’s degree from SUNY at Stony Brook where she studied violin with Joyce Robbins, viola with Caroline Levine, and, as violist of the university’s fellowship quartet, chamber music with Timothy Eddy and Julius Levine. She was awarded fellowships at Tanglewood Music Center in both violin and viola, and at the Steans Institute at Ravinia.

In nearly twenty years of freelancing in New York, Stefanie performed frequently with the New York Philharmonic, and was guest principal violist with the American Symphony, Long Island Philharmonic, Stamford Symphony, Riverside Symphony, and the Cape May Festival Orchestra.

Additionally she performed with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Musica Viva, and the New York City Ballet Orchestra. She premiered chamber works in venues including Merkin Hall, Roulette, and Miller Theater and performed live on WQXR.

Since returning to her home state of Vermont in 2010, Stefanie has performed extensively in the region as both violist and violinist. She is the assistant principal violist of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, has led the Burlington Chamber Orchestra as concertmaster, and has acted as principal violist for both Middlebury Opera and Green Mountain Opera.

Stefanie is a graduate of the School for Strings pedagogy program and has completed SAA training through violin Book 8. She has private studios in both Rutland and Burlington, and teaches violin at the Sugarwood School. She is on the faculty of Berkshire Summer Music, and was formerly on the faculty of both the Bay View Music Festival in Michigan, and Reveille, the Vermont Youth Orchestra’s summer camp.

Stefanie lives in Wallingford, Vermont with her four musical children and dog, Jasper.
