The stunning hills of Vermont are alive with the sound of music...for the second year in a row! This year, featuring...
Middlebury Community Music Center, in conjunction with the Middlebury Song Festival, is proud to present this 2nd annual festival and concert series celebrating art song in the idyllic setting of the Green Mountains of Vermont. With three concerts over three days, Middlebury Song Fest brings together singers and pianists from around the north eastern United States to not only sing and explore the classical song repertoire, but to engage deeply with audiences and inspire creativity, reflection, participation and joy!
This year we are proud to shine an essential light on Women Composers by making it our theme, featuring works by Vermont resident for many years, Gwyneth Walker, as well as presenting the Vermont debut of a newly commissioned work by Juliana Hall entitled Through the Guarded Gate, a song cycle devoted to the issues of social justice. Other exciting selections include songs by Amy Beach, Fanny Mendelssohn, Alma Mahler and more.
From English to French, German to Argentinian, we will celebrate and honor the history and accomplishments of women song composers throughout the weekend. Concert experiences will vary from intimate and reflective, to traditional and mixed media, to Master Classes and debuts of original music. Join us as we dive into poetry and music to explore how these art forms support each other in expressing and reflecting on the human experience.
