JAZZ STANDARDS + IMPROVISATION
Participants of this class will have the opportunity to study Jazz Standards and the Music Theory necessary to support Improvisation. Participation will be limited to “Combo” size to provide appropriate time for each musician to improvise. There is room for up to one musician for each rhythm section instrument, and up to three “Horn” players. There will be one 90 minute session in each week of the term.
- JS&I 2.0 - Wednesdays, 7:00pm-8:30pm *Prerequisite: JS&I 1.0 or teacher permission.
- JS&I 4.0 -Thursdays, 7:30pm - 9pm *Prerequisite: JS&I 1-3 or teacher permission.
- Dates: Jan. 9/10 - May 22/23 (no class during Feb. or April breaks)
- Tuition: $324 (Can be processed in full or in 2 equal installments on Jan.15 and March 15th)

Bear Irwin began teaching instrumental music in 1970, and returned to teach instrumental music at Mill River Union High School in the Fall of 2003. Before returning to Mill River Union High School, Mr. Irwin taught vocal and/or instrumental music at Enosburg Falls Junior – Senior High School & Elementary School, Bakersfield Middle School, Montgomery Elementary School (’70 - ’74 & ’84 - ’92), Middlebury Union Junior and Senior High School (’74 – ‘76 ), Mill River Union High School (’92 – ’98), and Rutland Town School (’98 – ’03). Bear also taught Senior High Methods and Brass Methods on the Adjunct Faculty of Johnson State College and Castleton State College, and presently teaches trombone at Middlebury College. Bear has done graduate work at UVM, Central Connecticut State University, and Plymouth State College.
