Grammy-nominated flutist Karen Kevra has won attention as one of the country's outstanding flutists through her distinctive warm and extroverted performances, and has been hailed as "having a musical focus and depth seen in few flutists anywhere."
An engaging and inspiring teacher, Kevra teaches students of all ages and levels from young children through adults. Her prize-winning students have attended the nation's finest music conservatories, and they routinely occupy the top chairs in the Vermont Youth Orchestra, regional, state, and New England performing ensembles. In 2017 her flute students swept the All State solo woodwind category taking all three prizes. She is equally at home teaching beginners by establishing a solid foundation, as well as helping students prepare everything from orchestral excepts, etudes, and solo repertoire for college and conservatory auditions.
Kevra has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe including performances at Carnegie Hall, the French Embassy in Washington D.C., on NPR, and on French National Television, and has shared the stage with violinist Jaime Laredo, the Paris Piano Trio, Borromeo String Quartet, Boston Chamber Music Society, members of the Emerson and Talich String Quartets, and Trey Anastasio of Phish. Of her most recent recording, Romantic Music for Flute and Piano, superstar flutist Sir James Galway wrote, "There are special moments which truly touched me. An outstanding performance.”
Kevra is founder and Artistic Director of Capital City Concerts in Montpelier, Vermont. When she's not playing the flute you can find her at home preparing Middle Eastern feasts or in her garden listening to her beloved Red Sox on the radio.
