![]() Chris has returned to his hometown of Middlebury after forty years in Maine, where he taught 8th grade English. For the last thirteen years Chris led youth and adult Bluegrass and American Roots Music ensembles in the Dexter school district. His groups of high school students, The Abbott Hill Ramblers, averaged a dozen shows a year and produced 6 recordings.
For 22 years Chris was a member of Maine’s premiere acoustic group, Evergreen (five recordings), playing primarily banjo, but also fiddle, accordion, and guitar. The group played its last show in October of 2013. He has composed numerous songs and instrumentals. Currently, he plays fiddle and banjo with Snake Mountain Bluegrass in the Middlebury area. He also has extensive experience in contra dance music. |
For the past five years Chris has taught banjo (clawhammer and
bluegrass styles) at Maine Fiddle Camp. This past school year he mentored two groups through the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury. He sees the MCMC as a great opportunity for youth and adults to progress individually on their instruments of choice with the goal of playing (and singing) with other people. Chris’s specialty is the banjo (all styles, all levels), but he also teaches fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and accordion. At MCMC he will encourage the formation of ensembles, in addition to individual and/or group lessons. Helpful Note!
