C A M P  A D A G I O

a  chamber music camp for young musicians...

For intermediate and advanced players with prior ensemble experience, ages 9-18

a b o u t  t h i s  c a m p  .  .  .

Located at MCMC in the heart of Middlebury, Camp Adagio is a chamber music day camp.  Students are placed in two small ensembles that meet daily working on an ensemble piece with an MCMC music faculty member.   Other activities include walking field trips, art projects, chorus, soccer, croquet, yoga, whiffle ball, and eating popsicles.  Field trips have included an acapella workshop in the college library with Joseph Antonioli, a tour of the carillon at mead chapel with the college carillonneur George Matthews a demo of the organ at mead chapel by Emory Fanning, a look at rare and medieval music manuscripts in the college library with librarian Joy Pile, a drawing workshop in the college art museum with Boston University professor Dana Clancy, a physics and music lab with Middlebury College Professor Noah Graham. Adagio is a laid back small camp with a coach to student ratio of 1:4.
Daily Schedule:
  • 2 daily coached chamber music sessions
  • 2 ½-hour private music lessons during the week
  • Daily choral and yoga instruction
  • Field trips including visits to the to the Middlebury College Art Museum and Music Library
  • Soccer, croquet, and popsicle breaks!
  • The camper staff ratio at Camp Adagio is 4:1

​Sadie Brightman
is the director of MCMC and teaches piano to students of all ages. Chamber music has always been a passion! Sadie is the mom of two young girls, and lives in Lincoln with her family.

​Emily Sunderman
teaches Suzuki Method violin and loves to find ways to incorporate yoga and chamber music into her teaching. She has played the violin since she was 3 and lives in Cornwall Vermont with her husband, Michael Lee, and their son.

Bear Irwin
has been teaching music for over forty years and will be joining Camp Adagio for the first time this summer. In addition to teaching trombone and voice at a number of schools and colleges, Bear
 manages and plays Lead Trombone in the Vermont Jazz Ensemble.
